Siam or Ratchaprarop are good areas to stay. You should see Wat Phra Keow - the vast golden and marble temple in the heart of the city. Khao San Road is a great nightlife area. Chatuchak market is buzzing with food and clothes and icecream in coconuts. Take a boat tour from the dock next to Wat Phra Keow. They will try to rip you off with a large price so haggle down. There is an afternoon price which is cheaper so ensure you get that if its after 2pm. Check out a Skybar whilst your there - Above11 is a nice one.
